The Summer in Pictures

There are a few things that I have learned this summer that I would like to share with you:
  1. They should not be called "toddlers", they should called "fall down-ers"
  2. Twins do in fact look cuter in matching outfits
  3. It's never too early to set firm boundaries with strong willed children
  4. It's a lot harder to NOT laugh when your daughter does something inappropriate than one might think
  5. Sometimes you just have to let them watch a video
  6. The place where grown ups socks go, also has a nice supply of single toddler shoes
  7. The stink-ability of a child should never be underestimated
  8. Ventilator Schmentilator....Penny's going where she wants to go
  9. There is absolutely nothing cuter than your own kid
  10. A picture really is worth a thousand words...so here ya go
Their favorite place to play is IN the toy box.  Regularly I find Lydia in there with her Bible just flipping away.

Mah Mah, Yeh Yeh, and Illy reading to the girls

Yeh Yeh starting piano lessons early

There's not enough room for both of us in Daddy's suitcase! -L

We were given VERY nice car seats with well loved covers.....so I made new ones!  Nothing like cute children's fabric and overpriced slip covers to make you want to sew again!

So...the  chickens.  I've been wanting chickens since before I was pregnant, but I never could justify the cost of a coop and building a safe run for them and all the start up cost.  So, when my friend Ami moved out to the country and started having trouble with her chickens being safe from wild animals, I was her go to girl. Her husband designed and built an amazing chicken coop from a Little Tykes playhouse that came along with the chickens along with a promise from her that if it turned out that they were too much for me that she would take them back!  DEAL!!!  We have loved having them.  The girls love going out with me every morning to feed them or going out with me in the afternoon to look for eggs.  They say "chick? chick?" and if you go toward the back door they say "egg?"....it's precious.  My dad even got in on the fun and put up an official fence and gate for their pen rather than the pieced together thing we were using.  It's pretty awesome if I do say so myself.  Don't "egg" me on though...I do know a few chicken "yokes" that might ruffle a few "feathers"....I guess my sense of humor has reached it's "beak"...yea

This has to be my favorite family photo fail so far.  Lydia is trying to steal her sunglasses back, Jonathan's eyes are closed, I  have no idea what I am doing, and Penny is trying to tell the strangers that she doesn't know these people.....too funny

As you can tell Miss Penelope was quite full of herself that day
Too cool for school

"I don't know what flavor my snocone was! I didn't get any of it in my mouth!!" -P

A girl and her area rug...I mean puppy.  Seriously...this dog is the calmest most wonderful puppy you have ever seen.  One of our nurses said she was a Stepford Dog because she's just so well mannered.  She has, however, recently discovered shoes...but that's to be expected.  Most of the time you would NEVER guess that there was a 5 month old puppy in the house.  It's such a blessing. You can tell how Penny feels about her from this picture for sure.

If you say "Penny, who's the boss?" this is the response you get.  Unless you're a stranger, in which case you get a coy smile and a shy little shrug....until you turn away..then you get this...but you don't see it.  She has many "tricks" as we call them.  If you say "Penny, what do we say to bad guys?" she says "Hiya!".   She knows lots of animal sounds and dance moves.  It's pretty adorable and she loves pleasing a crowd.  We have a little performer on our hands!

Both girls love to "wok wok" in the glider in Lydia's room....I encourage it because then I get pictures of them sitting next to eachother without one of them crying and pushing the other one away.

another possibly name for toddlers would be "climbers"...but toddler/fall down-er/climber is too long of a name so I guess we'll stick with the traditional name for this stage. No matter how you put it, my babies are growing up.

The Memphis Zoo has a fantastic exhibit where you can feed the budgies...both girls really enjoy the birds almost as much as their parents do

This is Lydia and Mr Chang "playing" Mah Jong.  For those of you who don't know, Mr Chang is an icon in the Memphis string community and was Jonathan's violin teacher from childhood.  The girls are already on the waiting list to be his students.  This will be a very embarrassing picture for them when they are 12 or so.  That's the whole reason I took it!

Lydia is pretty excited about Mah Mah and Yeh Yeh playing Mah Jong with them. It also appears that Lydia got Mah Mah's eyes

We really like donuts.  And we live about a mile from one of the best donut places in town.  So, to balance out the donut to fat ration, we walk there sometimes.  Yet another moment that would go undocumented without our personal photographer/Penny's nurse/our friend Kim

Since the climbing is inevitable, we decided to establish a place where the climbing is allowed.  Penny's boxes of medical supplies along with our gigantic boxes of diapers from Costco do just the trick!  Plus the girls look so proud of themselves when they get to the top.

These giant bears are for sale at Costco too.  This time we had some friends with us who helped set up what I think is a BEARY cute picture.....I know I know....but the look on Penny's face is GRRRReat....You have to PAWS to appreciate it....har di har di har

This picture was taken at about 2 in the morning.  We had a night without a nurse and Penny likes to wake up and party....so....we did.  How can you refuse that face?!

Just a typical day of playing...stuff everywhere...oxygen tanks lying around...adorable matching 4th of July dresses and big red bows....ya know...the usual

This was our first ever attempt at swimming and it was a BIG hit.  Our little buddy Lynnlee's family invited us to their 4th of July swim party and well what's better than one ventilator baby in a pool? Why two of course! We had a blast although Penny acts as if she does not have a hole directly to her lungs.  She's a wild woman.  We have already started plans to invent a trach snorkel so she can actually swim....yea...it'll be great

They really did not love being held still

Mah Mah and Penny at Leawood.  I'm pretty sure the Chus were the proudest grandparents in the place that day.

Note to self...the countertops are no longer safe

Is this child not GORGEOUS!?!?!? And I have TWO of them!!!

Illy the dog and Illy the coffee

Sometimes Lydia becomes Mrs. Crapapple

For anyone who has ever been to Lebonheur with your child, you know that the patients all get gowns to wear.  Well until this day, Penny wore the little yellow baby gown.  Today, we graduated to the peach one.  It was a big deal.

Lydia found a toddler sized grocery cart at Target.  Needless to say we now are the proud owners of a toddler sized grocery cart

This kid was pretty proud of herself for getting up on the box....she just giggled and giggled and so did I

Party in Penny's crib! You can tell it's a good one because all Lydia has on is a diaper and some Mardi Gras beads.

Aunt Linda and her favorite girls

I hope that this has made up for all of the posts that never got posted because of the nature of life with twin toddlers.  Without the prayers and support of our family and friends, we would not be where we are today, chasing two wonderful blessings.  Thank you for all of your prayers for healing.  They obviously have worked.
