Sometimes when your abilities to do what you love are limited by something outside of your control, you just have to find alternate means to accomplish the same goal. Penny has already done this.
We had a relatively good day today. Penny had a lot of sleeping and a little bit of agitation mixed in with some sweet awake time. Her bloodgases were good all day so hopefully tomorrow they will start to wean her pressures. If she does well then this will be a very positive step toward coming off of the vent. It's such a tough balance of weaning off the sedation without causing withdrawals but also allowing her to be unsedated enough to breath well on her own. But not having her be so awake that she's agitated causing her co2 to go up. But if the co2 is too low then it cuts her drive to breathe....see...it's tricky.
Tomorrow she gets her sutures cut and her trach and dressings changed out. This should be more comfortable for her, not to mention less smelly, and we can start her on physical and occupational therapy and get her moving around! I'm super excited. For today and until the sutures are out though the more rest the better for her. Mostly against her will though.
Lydia is refusing sleep for solidarity sake
